Description

Limited Edition, one of two hundred fifty copies numbered and signed by the artist in pencil. Designed, with original art by Maralyn Crosetto and printed at Day Moon Press, Seattle, by Maura Shapley and Jack LeNoir. Housed in a box with a letterpress printed title and vignette on the cover; with an overlay of 1930s confetti-style tissue from the collection of noted Seattle printer Frank McCaffrey (Dogwood Press). A Fine copy, as New. // This piece is created from no less than five different linoleum blocks which were created after an original drawing by the artist. The lino cuts and engraving were printed letterpress on a Vandercook 219, using Platine paper. All images within the numbered doors are archival ink jet prints of original watercolors by the artist, printed with Ultrachrome ink on an Epson Stylus Pro 6900, using Arches watercolor paper. Titles and figures were printed letterpress in Nicholas Cochin Bold. All production was done at Day Moon press, Seattle. Inspired by the familial traditions of her Italian heritage, Maralyn Crosetto chose favorite images, collected from her travels abroad, for each day of Advent. | This calendar's central image is a rendition of Cetinale, a Tuscan estate near Siena. Originally a farmhouse, built upon Etruscan ruins, its most famous expansion came in 1676 when Flavio Chigi hired Carlo Fontana to recreate the standing villa in the Roman Baroque genre. This transformation included the Scala Santa, a dramatic three hundred step staircase to a hilltop hermitage and the Tebaide (the Holy Wood) where the Palio of Siena was raced seven times. In 1978 Lord Lambton bought Cetinale and devoted the rest of his life to restoring the estate and creating a beautiful formal garden.
